Abstract: From Foreword: Mahila Samokhya for the last 12 years has been striving dedicatingly to craft a better Society- a society, free as far as possible, of discrimination on the lives of caste, group, gender, community and wealth; a society where individual dignity and happiness will reign supreme, and where systems shall operate with transparent honesty and efficiency without glitch; where access to resources and opportunities is uniform and where people can stay in a healthy environment, breathing in the sheer joy of being alive. This should apply more to those who have, sadly, existed as shadow figures for centuries on the margin of the Indian society, bereft of all rights and privileges, which should have been theirs naturally. Women in particular, who have been condemned to live in deprivation (to use the cliched phrase from womb to tomb, denied the most elementary benefits of education and health, let alone the freedom to live life their own way.
