The most significant contribution of the State Programme Office in this year was the key role it played in the expansion of the programme into two new districts. In April 1991, Smt. Uma Kulkarni from the State Programme Office and Smt. Nirmala Shiraguppi, District Programme Coordinator, Bijapur DIU, made an exploratory visit to Raichur and Gulbarga Districts. The resources required for launching the programme in the new areas were identified and contacts were established with a large number of persons in both districts, such as, voluntary agencies, government officials, women activists, mandal members, academicians, local doctors and social workers.en_US
