Abstract

From District Profile: Malkangiri as a district now in the 13ths year of its existence was craved out from the erstwhile Koraput district on 2nd October 1992. DPEP/SSA in the district commenced from 2000 but, it could be operated full-fledged only from 2003. Malkangiri is a district with many diversities. It is predominant by tribal people and PIG group is also found here. According to the recent study about 53% of the total population belongs to ST. The geography of Malkangiri is marked by different hill terrains far-flung cut off area and dense forest. The district has more than 5 lacks population, with decennial growth rate of 1.59. As per the indicators of demographic profile Malkangiri has the lowest literacy rate of 31% and it mostly prevailed in tribal dominated areas, 93% of people live in rural areas and the sex ratio indicates 999 per 100 males. 14.7% of over population are in the age of 6.
