Abstract: From District Profile: 'TUMKUR' the name arises from "Tumbe" plants grown heavily all over the region. Tumkur is one of the progressing district of Karnataka. It is situated in the South-east region of the state between 12°-45' to 14° - 20' north latitudes and 76°-20' to 77°-31' east longitudes. The geographical boundaries of the district are Ananthapura district of Andhra pradesh to the north, Kolar district to the east. Bangalore Rural District to the south, Mandya and Hassan districts to the west. The total area of the district is 10,596 sq.kms. It is also 2700 ft above the sea level.
