MDM Annual Work Plan and Budget 2007-08 State - Himachal Pradesh: National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education, 2006

Abstract

From Objectives: The Nlationai Programme of Nutritioncl Support to Primary Education {NPNSPE}, popularly called Mid-Day-Meal Scheme was launched on 15th August, 1995, with the twin objectives of, Boosting Universalisation of Primary Education by increasing enrolment, retention and attendance and Simultaneously impacting on Nutritional status of children studying in class I-V in the Primary Schools. Under this scheme, due to financial constraints, in the state of Himachal Pradesh provided Un-cooked Food Grains (RICE) was being distributed, till May, 2003. But, it was considered that distribution of food grain in the Primary School could not achieve the main professed objective of the scheme to provide supplementary nutrition to the children. Since, the un-cooked rice distributed under the scheme, is either used by the entire family or resold in the market for economic benefits. In either case the child is not the sole beneficiary.
