Abstract: From Introduction: Mahabubnagar is one of the largest districts in Andhra Pradesh situated on the southern part of the Telangana region. It is surrounded by Ranga Reddy District on the northern side, Gulbarga and Raichur districts of Karnataka state on the Western side, Guntur and Nalgonda on the Eastern side ; it is separated from Rayalaseema by the river, Thungabadra on the Southern side. It was under the Nizam rule before reorganisation of states. There are 64 mandals and three (3) urban areas in this district consisting of 1508 villages with a population of 35,13,299 as per 2001 census. The literacy rate of this district is 45.53%.
