Abstract: From Introduction: India, the largest democracy in the world with more than one billion people has always given utmost importance to education. It had a well-defined indigenous system of education before the colonial rule. The British rulers westernised the educational system and centralised it for a chosen few to suit their governance. We inherited a colonial legacy in which more than 70 percent of people were illiterates and the rest culturally distanced from mother India.
