Abstract

From Introduction: This publication is the 11*^ in the series giving statistics of examination results of Boards of Secondary, Higher Secondary Education and Intermediate/Pre-University Examination for 1993 and 1994. The previous issue contained similar results for 1991 and 1992. Education comprises ail deliberate, systematic, organised and sustained forms of communication designed to bring about learning. The techniques of evaluation are means of collecting evidence about the students' development In education/learning. The prevalent method of evaluation used in India is written examination. Other methods Include observation techniques, oral tests, practical examinations, etc. Evaluation is a continuous process and an Integral part of the total system of education duly related to educational objectives. Several committees and commissions have discussed the harmful effects of the system of evaluation. The secondary education commission after reviewing the ill effects of existing system, recommended a new approach to school evaluation and has made a number of concrete proposals for improvement of external examinations and internal assessment.
