dc.description.abstractFrom Education: Uptill the annexation of Punjab in 1849, the system of education was same as during the Muslim rule. There were Maktabs, Quran schools, Madrasas, Chatshalas, Pathshalas, Lande/Mahajani/Sarafi schools and Gurmukhi schools where Maulvis, Pandits and Granthis taught persian, arabic, sanskrit and gurmukhi. These schools were generally located in the mosques, dharmshalas, gurdwaras and deras etc.en_US
