Abstract: | From Chapt. 1: After British expedition in 1890, Lushai Hills, as it was then called, fell under the British. During the British Period Lunglei District was a part of the South Lushai Hills with no separate name. Following the North Eastern Areas (Reorganization) Act 1971 a new District, Lunglei with its headquarters at Lunglei was formed out of the south Lunshali Hills, At the time Mizo District Council ceased to exist but village councils were set up in each Village to look after the Village administration. These Village Council are elected bodies. |
