From Analysis of the Judgements of Supreme Court and the High Courts Leading to the First Amendment of the Constitution: Article 15(1) of the Constitution of India specifically bars the state from discriminating any citizen of India on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth, or any of them. This provision represents another dimension on the principle of equality enshrined in article 14. Where a law falls within the prohibited confines of article 15(l), it cannot be validated by recourse to article 14 and by applying any principle of reasonable classification.en_US
