Abstract: I am grateful to the University Teachers’ Welfare ‘Society, Delhi, and to its President, Dr. Lalit P. Aggarwal, who has been an old classmate and a valued personal friend, for having invited me to inaugurate this seminar on the National Policy of Education and its Impact on the Teaching Community. I have accepted the invitation, partly because I cannot say ‘no’ to Dr. Aggarwal, but mainly because I did not like to miss this opportunity of being with a competent and committed group of teachers like this which has gathered here to discuss an important scheme in the current proposals of educational reform. With your permission, therefore, I would like to share some of my ideas on the subject with you and discuss the academic aspects of the adoption of the new pattern of 10 + 2+3 for school and college classes.
