dc.description.abstractFrom Introduction: The population of Andhra Pradesh, is 536 lakhs. There are 25 districts and 1104 Madals. The elementary school going children of age group 6-15 in the State are estimated to be 83 lakhs in 1986-87 and are likely to increase to 143 lakhs by 1995. The literacy rate of Andhra Pradesh is 39% for males and 20% for females with an overall average of ,29/94%, against the All India average 35%. There are 49,991 elementary schools of which 44,299 are from classes I to V and 5,672 are middle schools upto Class VII. Of these 90% are managed by local bodies and 7% are in the 1138864 private sector. There are 138864 teachers. The teacher pupil ratio for Elementary schools at the State level comes to 1:55. If taken together with the middle school also the Teacher-pupil ratio comes to 1:52 against the National norm of 1:40.en_US
