Abstract: From Preface: The Administrative Reforms Committee in its Report on 'Finance Accounts and Audit ’ recommended the introduction of Performance Budgeting in government. The Performance Budget of the Education Department for 1997-98 is prepared. Performance budget is defined as a Budget which presents (1) the purposes and objectives for which funds are requested, (2) the cost of the programmes proposed for achieving the objects and (3) quantitative data measuring the accomplishments. In other words, it is a technique of presenting the operations in terms of functions, programmes and activities / projects (of capital nature). There are three main parts in Performance Budget, i) Introductory, ii) Financial Requirements and iii) Explanation for financial requirements.
