dc.description.abstractFrom Introduction: The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands consists of 556 islands and rocks big & small. Presently, only 38 of these islands are inhabited. Population of these islands as per 1981 census is 1,88,741. The total area of the islands is about 8293 sq.km. and the whole of the Territory was one district earlier but it was bifurcated into two districts viz Andamans District and Nicobars District with effect from 1.4.1974.en_US
