Indian Students/Trainees Going Abroad and Foreign Students in India 1998-99

Abstract

This study presents an analysis of trends in respect of Indian students and Trainees who went abroad and Foreign Students who arrived in India, for higher studies during 1998-99. Basic data for the study was collected from the Reserve Bank of India and the Association of Indian Universities. The purpose in bringing out this publication is to maintain the statistical records of Indian Students I Trainees going abroad under various schemes of higher studies in order to acquire the latest know-how in various fields like Agriculture, Technology, Science, Medicine, Education, etc. Efforts have been made to compare the number of Indian students in foreign countries with those of foreign students in Indian Universities in 1998-99. This publication gives statistics of outflow of Indian students/Trainees state-wise, duration-wise, sex-wise, subject-wise, country-wise etc. In addition, it also gives information about sources of financial assistance, country-wise, agency-wise etc. Besides, this publication also contains statistics of students from foreign countries in Indian Universities with continent-wise, country-wise, sex-wise, subject-wise break up.
