Abstract: This Publication is being brought out in the 50A year of our independence. This publication is in three volumes; vol. I, vol. II and vol. ill. The /resent volume fives detailed information about the number of schools of various categories; State-wise and UT-wise after independence. After Independence state Reorganisations Commissions were set up to determine the territorial Jurisdiction of states/uTs while some u t s were upgraded to states. This has resulted in metamoiphic ch afes which need to he taken into account. The period after 1950-51 to 1992-93 has been divided into three sub-periods from (I) 1950-51 to 1958-59, (11) 1959-60 to 1969-70 and (ill) 1970-71 to 1992-93 in order to have comparability between the states during these periods, it has been a very tardy and laborious work attempted by die staff and officers of statistics Division and CM is unit.
