Abstract: India is the home of 16% of World’s total population accommodated in an area of .2.42% of the World’s total area. India spends 3 3% of its GNP on education and has 48% of its population in the ages 15- and above as illiterates, while China speeds only 2.6%of its GNP and has only 18% of its population in ages 15+ and above as illiterates. One-third of world non-literates arc in India. The population, area, density of the World and some of our neighbouring countries has been given in Sub-Table -1.
