dc.description.abstractHigh drop out rates at the primary level have been an area of concern for many years. Although the drop out rate has declined to 39% in 2001-02 as compared to 42.6% in 1990-91 (SES 2001-02), this relatively small decline indicates that more needs to be done to improve retention. Given the time bound objectives of SSA, the States would need to reduce the drop out rate io 0% by 2007 at the latest.en_US
