dc.description.abstractIndia is the home of 16% of World’s total population accommodated in an area of 2.42% of the World’s total land area. India spends 3.8% of its GNP on education and has 46% of its population aged 15 years and above as illiterates while China spends only 2.6%of its GNP and has only 22% of its population aged 15 years and above as illiterates. According to World Education Report 1998 and demographic Yearbook 1995, United Nations, New York and as reported by Directorate of Adult Education in their literacy facts at a glance, slightly less than one third of World ’s non literate aged 15 years and above are in India.en_US
