Abstract

The main thrust of the Department of Culture is the dissemination and promotion of Indian culture in its rich and varied imagery. The idea is that through arousing cultural consciousness among the people, their creative energies should be utilised for expressions in various art forms. D uring the year 1993-94, the Department continued to address itself to the preservation, promotion and enrichment of the rich and historic cultural heritage and traditions of the land through a network of institutions working in the field of Archaeology, Archives, Museums, Libraries, Anthropology, Buddhist Studies/Tibbetology etc. A National Policy on Culture has also been submitted to Parliament for consideration. The following paragraphs seek to summarise the major activities of 1993-94 under the aegis of the Department of Culture.
