Abstract: Mid Day Meal (MDM) is one of the earliest supplementary nutrition programs in the country which has nutritional as well as educational objectives.It is a flagship programme of the Government of India aiming at addressing hunger in schools by serving hot cooked meal, helping children concentrate on classroom activities, providing nutritional support, encouraging poor children, belonging to disadvantaged sections, to attend school more regularly, providing nutritional support to children to drought-affected areas during summer vacation, studying in Government, Local Body and Government-aided primary and upper primary schools and the Centres run under Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS)/Alternative & Innovative Education (SSA) and NCLP schools of all areas across the country. In drought-affected areas MDM is served during summer vacation also.
