Abstract: The importance of adult education and literacy is universally recognised. With 64 per cent of illiteracy in the country, programmes cf modernisation of the economy, creativity, health and family planning, environmental conservation and universalization of primary education cannot register much success. Indeed the critical development issue today is the conversion of the unskilled work force into semi-skilled arid skilled manpower and provision of facilities f0r continuing upgradation of knowledge and skills of ail people.
