Analysis of Budgeted Expenditure on Education 1997-98 to 1999-2000

Abstract

This publication gives details of Plan and Non Plan expenditure budgeted by the education departments of States/UTs and the Centre for various sub-sectors of Education. Departments other than the Department of Education also incur some expenditure on education and an effort has been made to include budget estimates of other departments for expenditure on education to get the total picture of public expenditure on education in the country. However, it still does not include expenditure incurred by some of the major Ministries/departments like the Ministries of Defence and Railways on Education. The expenditure of other departments also includes the expenditure on research and training (formal and non-formal). It, however, excludes that portion of the budget provisions which relates to training facilities provided by such Departments to their employees for improving their professional skills or other in-service training courses.
