Abstract:	The UGC had received about 90 proposals for consideration of Deemed to be University status. It was thought tit that since it will not be advisable either physically or academically to assess all these proposals by visiting these institutions, a screening committee may be constituted to assess the academic viability of these proposals, before a committee is sent to visit them and assess their suitability for the award of Deemed to be University status. This proposal was sent to the Ministry of Human Resource Development for approval. The M/HRD agreed with the suggestion and suggested that UGC may constitute a screening committee to evaluate these proposals.
