Abstract: A booklet ‘Gradation of Secondary Schools’ was thus made available to the schools The committee fixed the criteria for the classification of schools into categories A, B and C. Some Education Officers used these booklets and classified the schools in the respective district, in A, B and categories. Some officers of the Department of Education also used the booklet under the project-‘Adoption of Schools’. It was observed that most schools fell in the ‘B’ Category and only a few in categories A and G. It was felt that the objective evaluation of the schools in ‘B’ category posed a serious problem. Therefore, it was decided to classify the schools in five categories. Accordingly, each aspect was reconsidered and a scheme was drawn up for the classification of schools in five categories. A, B, C, D and E.
