Abstract: With the advent of globalization and the flattening of the world, some cities in the world have been categorized as global cities or world class cities. These are cities which have a direct and tangible effect on global affairs through socio-economic, cultural and / or political means. One characteristic of a world class city is that of having world renowned cultural and educational institutions such as museums and universities- that is to say offering quality education to its inhabitants. Mumbai has two A grade universities, a couple of A grade deemed universities, prestigious business and technology institutions, medical colleges as well as a host of high quality primary and secondary schools. It also has primary and secondary schools conducted by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai ( MCGM ). Mumbai is considered to be a seat of learning in India.
