Abstract: | Kerala's development trajectory during the recent period bears a striking resemblance to that of the national economy as a whole. Even its GSDP growth rate, 8.2 percent in 2004-05 and 8.0 percent in 2005-06, are very similar to the GDP growth rate figures, 7.5 percent and 8.4 percent respectively, for the national economy. Its primary sector growth rate, like that of the national economy as a whole, has been abysmal. And it too, like the national economy, derives the main stimulus for the growth from the secondary and tertiary sectors, the latter in particular. |
