Abstract: Gandhigram was founded in 1947 by a team of dedicated disciples of Gandhiji led by Dr.T.S.Soundaram and Dr.G.Ramachandran. Situated very close to the southern tip of the Indian Peninsula, 55 km north of Madurai, Gandhigram is nestled in sylvan surroundings in the shadow of the salubrious Sirumalai hills. It is a purposively created village dedicated to the Gandhian ideals and the home of many rural development programmes and experiments.
