Abstract

From General Information: Kanyakumari District is the Southern most part of India comprising four Taluks Thovalai, Agastheeswaram, Kalkulam and Vilavancode of Tamil Nadu. In the annals of ancient History this region was the part of Venadu, a small Independent State later expanded to Travancore State, It was also known as Vanchinad, the glorious land of lakes and hills. The most fertile land, Nanjilnadu, is in Kanyakumari District and is famous for extensive paddy cultivation. The District was highly prosperous and self-sufficient even in ancient periods with a great cultural heritage. The local people had the martial status and they were the great warriors who kept the enemies and conquerors away who came to plunder the a ancient monuments and temples of this district. Chanda Sahib, Mukilan and many other conqurers had to face defeat and extinction when they came to conquer this part of the State, There were so many places connected with their names as Mukilankudi, Muhilankarai and Khankarai in this District.
