Abstract

From Preface: "Education in India" is annual publication of the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The publication is brought out in three volumes, volume l(s) containing numerical data on school Education, volume lI(s) Financial Data on School Education, & volume iii Examination Results of matriculation and higher level The present publication vol. l (s) relates to the year 1992-93 and contains state-wise statistics on School Education on enrolment, institutions, teachers and drop-out rates, etc, some of the other important indicators like dependency rates, percentage decrease/increase in the number of out of school children according to 1981 and 1991 census have been included in this publication for the country as a whole as also for different States/UTs. A small section on the internal efficiency of primary education in India during 1988 to 1992 has also been included in this volume. Educational statistics in respect of Lakshadweep have not been received and previous year data has been repeated instead.
