It is bounded on the North by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, in the west by Kerala and on the East by Bay of Bengal. It has an area of 130,000 square kilo metres with a population of 41,199,168 as per the 1971 Census. The estimated population of Tamil Nadu in 1974 was 444.05 lakhs as estimated by the Registrar General’s Office.en_US
