From Introduction: The Research Award Scheme came into existence during the Ninth Plan (1997-98) by merging two schemes, namely, the National Fellowship and the Career Award of the Eighth Plan. The Research Award scheme permits permanent teachers of universities and institutions full-time three-year research tenures in their respective field of specialisation. Teachers who have a doctorate degree and have shown excellence in their fields are considered for the award. The Research Award is given to only those Lecturers, senior Lecturers, and selection-grade Lecturers and Readers who are in continuous regular service in a recognised institution on permanent posts and are under 45 years of age at the time of submission of their application.en_US
