Abstract: | From Overview of The Economy: Punjab being an agrarian state, agriculture has played a pivotal role in the economic development of the slate. Through green revolution in the 60’s Punjab took a major stride in increasing its productivity of food grams, especially of wheat and rice. It contributed significantly towards strengthening India's self sufficiency by contributing a major share in the Central pool overtime. During 2006-07, it contributed 75.3% Wheat and 31.2% Rice. However, the growth of secondary sector especially of manufacturing sector is not of satisfactory level. Neighbouring states got an edge over Punjab in the growth of manufacturing sector due to locational advantages and a more conducive policy regime. Punjab has grown at a rate of 5.08% during 10th Five Year Plan as compared to 7.77% at all India level. Its secondary sector has grown at 8.40% as compared to 9.46% at all India level.
