Abstract: From Overview of The Economy: Punjab being an agrarian state, agriculture has played a pivotal role in the economic development of the slate. Through green revolution in the 60’s Punjab took a major stride in increasing its productivity of food grams, especially of wheat and rice. It contributed significantly towards strengthening India's self sufficiency by contributing a major share in the Central pool overtime. During 2006-07, it contributed 75.3% Wheat and 31.2% Rice. However, the growth of secondary sector especially of manufacturing sector is not of satisfactory level.
