Abstract: | From Higher Education: In India the first three universities of the modern The National times were established through central legislation, at Calcutta, Perspective Madras and Bombay primarily with the limited purpose of meeting the needs of the colonial administration more than a century and a quarter ago. These were followed by a number of universities at Lahore, Allahabad, Banaras etc. It was not intended to develop these institutions as corporate bodies of teachers and scholars seeking and cultivating knowledge, engaging vigorously in search of truth or to find ways and means of utilising the existing knowledge for social issues or various national problems. |
