dc.description.abstractFrom General Information: Formerly a princely state, The Kapurthala district, now one of the twelve districts of the Punjab State, lies in the bist doab, a tract between the rivers Beas and Sutlej. It is peculiar in two ways. Firstly, it is the smallest district of the Punjab State from area and population point of view. Secondly, it is split up into two, with one of its three Tehsils i.e. Phagwara situated about Forty Kilometers away with Jalandhar district falling in between.en_US
