Survey of Living Conditions of University Students: A Report

Abstract

From Introduction - Origin: The Central Advisory Board of Education at its 21st meeting held in February, 1954 recommended, among other measures, that “a survey should be made of the living conditions of students in metropolitan cities and the State Governments should prepare programmes for constructing school and college hostels in these areas in accordance with the needs revealed by the survey”. The above recommendation was examined by the Union Ministry of Education and it was decided to arrange for a survey to find out the social and economic conditions of living of Indian students as also their cultural interests and to assess the facilities needed for their curricular and co-curricular activities. It was felt that such a survey would facilitate the conduct of youth welfare work on a planned basis by providing valuable source material.
