Abstract: From Foreword: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is an apex resource organisation established by the Government of India in 1962, with the objective to assist and advise the Central and State Governments on academic matters related to school education. Besides promoting unity In the standards of education throughout the (country, training school teachers, publishing instructional material for both the teachers and the taught, and undertaking other related activities, the formulation and development of a Curriculum Framework for School Education has been an Important activity of the NCERT. The first such Curriculum Framework was developed by the NCERT In 1975. Thereafter, based on the recommendations made In the National Policy on Education, 1986, the National Curriculum for Elementary and Secondary Education: A Framework, was developed In 1988.
