From Foreword: Availability of a sound and reliable data base is the sine quo non of effective planning. With the decentralization and democratisation of planning process in the state the necessity of such statistical data is being increasingly felt as the planning process becomes more intricate. In our endeavour to collect and maintain accurate data on all aspects of the socio-economic structure of the state, an extensive statistical net work has been developed upto the district level. The decision has been taken to extend this to the block level, which in turn, would help in carrying the planning process to the grass roots with an attempt to relate development more and more to the real needs of the people.en_US
