From Foreword: This report prepared by the ‘Information and Statistics Division of the University Grants Commission provides summary of important statistical information about the Indian Universities which is expected to serve as a reference source of useful information for studying trends and changes that occurred in higher education. The first report in this series was published in 1962. The statistics included in this publication are based on the data for the years from 1977-78 to 1981-82.
