dc.description.abstractFrom Preface: The vidyapeethas came to be set up In the State, as a pant of the Adult Education Programme, in 1947. At present there are 12 vidyapeethas in the State, 10 for males and two for females. These vidyapeethas to function on the model of the folk high schools of Denmark and the Gurukulas or Ashrams of our country. They were to impart education to youth, oriented to rural life and vocations and to train them for good citizenship as well as rural leadership.en_US
