Abstract: From General: The District derived its name from Mahabubnagar, its headquarters town which was named after Mir Mehaboob Ali Khan, the VI Nizam of Hyderabad. It is located between 16" and 17" Latitudes and 77" 79" E longitudes It is bounded on the north by Ranga Reddy and Nelgonda Districts, on the east by Nalgonda and Guntur Districts, on the South by the rivers Krishna and Tungsthadra and on the west Raichur and Gulbarga- Districts of Karnataka State. The area of the District is 18432 Sq.Kms. The total population of the District according to the 1981 census count Is 24,44,619 persons consisting of 12,32,684 Males and 12,11,935 Females.
