Generally It Is believed that Sonipat was one of the five Prasthas or towns demanded by Yudhlshthira from Duryodhana as the price of peace. Another Tradition ascribes its foundation to Raja Soni, thirteenth in descent from Arjuna, a brother of Yudhishthira. By the way, both these theories have no substantial proof. It is because there is no mention of Sonipat In the Mahabharta although It has been noted, much earlier by the great grammarian Paninl in the celebrated Ashtadhyayi.en_US
