Abstract: From Preface: The 1971 census has presented a very disappointing picture of literacy education in this country. In a period of ten years we have crawled from 24.03% to 29.35%. Though we have fared better in women’s education during the last decade (from 12.95% in 1961 to 18.45% in 1971) compared to over-all literacy percentage, literacy rate among women is still very low in this country. Special efforts are therefore needed to rectify this situation.
