Abstract

From Preface: “Educational Statistics at a Glance” is an annual publication of the Education Department of this State. This publication furnishes statistics of number of educational institutions, enrolement, teachers and selected Census data on Population and Literacy. This publication contains talukawise, sexwise percentage in respect of Total population and Average population served by a school during 1997 - 98. Drop-out rates in classes I-IV, I-VIII and I-X and also among SC and ST students are also covered. Users of this publication would note that the present edition seeks to be more comprehensive, and for the first time data has been computerised with the help of NIC at Headquarter panaji. The valuable help and assistance received from Shri Manoj Kulgod, Senior System analyst, from the National Information centre (NIC) Goa is greatfully acknowledged. Thus, the time series data on population, literacy, enrolment, teachers, educational institutions has been more systematically presented. There is greater focus on Gender, SC and ST. These improvement are a small step towards the goal of a more comprehensive, reliable and informative publication.
