Abstract: From Introduction: Union Territory of Delhi has very peculiar characteristics both of size and population. Population of Delhi has increased at the rate of about 52% in the last three decades and area under agriculture has considerably shrinked. Both these problems are peculiar as they are drifting in opposite directions. The population over the past decade has gone up from 40.66 lakhs in 1971 to 62.20 lakhs in 1981. The net cropped area has come down to 58,551 hectares in 1981 from 80,, 510 hectares in 1971. The rapid urbanisation has posed many striking problems such as coming up of jhuggi jhopries & resettlement colonies, lack of employment opportunities, shortage of medical, education, housing facilities, etc.
