dc.description.abstractFrom Preface: The Adult Education Programme was launched in 1978-79 as a national programme for the education of adult illiterates in the age group of 15-35 years, to enable them to become useful members of society and contribute to the social and economic development of the country. The programme was meant mainly for the benefit of women and persons belonging to the vulnerable sections of society particularly in ' rural areas. An evaluation study of the Adult Education Programme in Haryana was undertaken by the Economic & Statistical Organisation , with a view to review its functioning, -assess its benefits and weaknesses and suggest remedial measures to make the programme more effective.en_US
