Abstract: The concept of a people’s education commission has been in the making for about two decades. During 1981, KSSP constituted a group to investigate in detail the problems of Kerala’s education system. The group put forward its proposals in the form of a document in 1982. In 1986 KSSP appointed a ‘Commission’ to study the problem of rampant corruption in education. The need for a comprehensive study of Kerala’s education was again raised within KSSP several times, particularly in the context of the literacy campaigns of 1987-88 and 1989-90.
