Abstract: From Introductory: We dealt, in our Interim Report on the Machinery for Planning, with some aspects of the problem of reorganising the Planning Commission, namely, its set-up, the distribution of work among its Members, the role of the National Development Council and the constitution of Planning Boards in the States for the formulation of Plans and evaluation of their performance. We also briefly touched upon the Planning Commission’s relationship with the Central and State Governments and upon the organisation of &e Secretariat of the Commission. As the purpose of our Interim Report was to assist the Government in its immediate task of taking decisions about the reconstitution of the Planning Commission,, we had to leave over for consideration, in a later report several other matters connected with the Machinery for Planning. While we do not intend to go over the ground afresh on matters which we have already dealt with in the Interim Report, it has become necessary on further consideration to supplement some of the recommendations made earlier by us.
